Things to do: Greymouth hosts an impressive range of activities within minutes of the centre of town, including the Art Gallery, History House and the walk on the flood wall which protects the town from the Grey River.

Float through underground streams cave rafting, watch Hector dolphins and fur seals on an Ocean Boat Tour or horse trek in the rain forest. Marvel at the art of carving and sculpture by a master of the art, or catch the wonderful sunsets from the beach or the tip-head.

For an idea of what early West Coast life was like, visit Shantytown, a replica pioneering town with its historical train rides, a working gold claim where you can pan for gold, as well as 30 historic buildings.
